Yates Community Center Breaks Ground on Transformational Expansion Project

Penn Yan, NY— With shovels in hand and the community at heart, the Yates Community Center officially broke ground on a long-awaited expansion project on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, marking the beginning of a bold new chapter for the local community.

More than a decade in the making, the new 35,000-square-foot facility will dramatically expand the Center’s ability to serve residents of all ages and abilities. The event drew a crowd of local and state officials, business leaders, school administrators, and hundreds of community members, all gathered to celebrate the milestone and look ahead to a stronger, more connected future.

“This is more than a building—it’s a symbol of what we can achieve together,” said Charles L. Bollinger III, Executive Director of the Yates Community Center. “We’re building a space where all generations can thrive, right here in Yates County.”

“Without you, this community would not have this—so thank you, thank you for being here and for sharing your dreams for the future of this Community Center,” said Dr. Suzamie Farnsworth, President of the Yates Community Center Board.

A Facility for All
Once completed, the new facility will feature:
  • An indoor walking and running track
  • Multipurpose courts for basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and more
  • Expanded STEM programming for youth and teens
  • Dedicated space for Special Olympics training and events
  • Meeting rooms for local groups and small businesses
  • A wide variety of fitness classes, recreational programs, and community events
Designed to be affordable, inclusive, and open to all, the new Community Center will promote wellness, connection, and opportunity year-round.

Raise the Roof: Powered by Community
This expansion is made possible by the Raise the Roof campaign, a grassroots fundraising effort fueled by the generosity and passion of Yates County residents.
Locally Built, Community Driven
Construction will begin shortly with many local contractors and suppliers, ensuring the project reflects and supports the regional economy every step of the way.
