Seneca Heritage Day 2026

Please join us for this year’s annual Seneca Heritage Day at historic Overackers Schoolhouse! The Middlesex Heritage Group has hosted this event for over 30 years to honor our region’s Indigenous people and their cultural legacy. This year’s theme is “The Seneca in the American Revolution”. Artist and educator Peter Jemison will speak. Bill Crouse and the Allegany River Dancers will perform traditional dances in full regalia. This is a show that should not be missed! Delicious pies will be sold for a small price, and there will be free ice cream sandwiches, popsicles, and water for attendees. The event time is 2:00-4:00pm at Overackers Schoolhouse.

After you have had your fill of pie and popsicles, we hope you will join us at the top of Bare Hill Unique Area to light the signal fire marking the start of Canandaigua Lake’s Ring of Fire. Festivities begin at 9:00pm with storytelling, dancing, and family fun. Arrive early, as there is a bit of a walk from the parking area to the bonfire area.

Both events are free and open to the public. For more information or questions, please email Amberle Kelly, Town of Middlesex Historian, at heritage@middlesexny.org.
