Exciting Events at the History Center
The Yates County History Center is hosting these exciting events soon! We hope you will join us!
On September 12 the History Center will host “A Walk Through History Annual Cemetery Tour: City Hill Edition”, at 2PM at City Hill Cemetery in Penn Yan. This year we are commemorating the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Society of Universal Friends! The Public Universal Friend and a number of followers will make their appearances in Yates County’s oldest non-native burial ground to tell you about their lives. Cost of attendance is $10/person or $20/family of up to five. Free Parking. Involves approximately an hour of walking over uneven surfaces, so please wear comfortable shoes.
On September 21 the History Center is excited to host “Tee Up for History Annual Golf Tournament” at Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan! Sponsors and teams are still needed, so reserve your spot today! Proceeds will benefit the History Center and our programs. Registration begins at 9AM, with a shotgun start at 10AM. Cost of attendance is $440/team of four, and includes food, 18 holes of golf with a golf cart, on-course contests, and a player gift. The deadline to register is August 31.
2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Society of Universal Friends by the Public Universal Friend. Follow in the pathway this enigmatic religious leader made through Yates County on October 3rd with “On the Trail of the Friend: A Bus Tour of Public Universal Friend Sites”, a tour of Yates County sites associated with the Society. Lunch will be provided at the Penn Yan Methodist Church before the tour, and the bus will depart at 1PM. The excursion will last approximately an hour and a half. Tickets are $50/person, and includes both lunch and the tour. Some (voluntary) walking available at sites. Limited seats are available, so don’t delay in reserving your spot!
