Description
Back for a third season, DJ Kitzel instructs another Rustic Furniture Workshop with the assistance of another talented craftsman, Edgar Brown. Over the course of two super fun days, this dynamic duo will guide your creative process through building a piece of your very own rustic furniture... To take home with you, to marvel at, and show off to your friends!!! Workshop: Join us at Hunt Country Vineyards and learn the basics of rustic furniture design and construction. Over two days we will design a simple piece, harvest materials, AND, using time honored hand tools, construct a functional, beautiful piece for your home or cottage. This ‘make it – take it’ workshop is designed for the beginner and intermediate woodworker who sees beauty in natural materials and enjoys creating from scratch. No woodworking experience necessary. All tools, fasteners, instruction and lunch provided. Participants should dress appropriately for woodworking, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a water bottle. We also recomend you bring safety glasses, work gloves and any personal tools you wish to use. Instructors: D.J. Kitzel has been creating rustic furniture for 20 years, and teaching it for 12. He enjoys every aspect of the process, from foraging materials to finishing. D.J. is also a stonemason, certified English teacher, and licensed wilderness guide with 26 years of experience in the building trades, 22 years in masonry trades. He has worked on historic structures and new builds across Rochester and the Finger Lakes region while pursuing a life-long interest in traditional trades. Edgar Brown is a graduate of the Woodworking & Furniture Design program at the RIT School for American Craftsmen. His current fascinations are all things Finger Lakes, and gathering and using natural materials for food, medicine, and utility. He has been making rustic furniture for over 10 years. Brown is also a NYS certified art teacher, a primitive technology instructor, a FLX wine trail guide, a member of the Genesee Valley Flintknappers Association, and a resident at the Rochester Folk Art Guild. Program: Group starts at 9:00am on Saturday and Sunday, ending at 4:00 pm each day. Saturday morning will start with introductions, course overview, expectations, safety. D.J. will provide instruction, all tools needed, and work songs. Instruction will be a combination of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on work to construct your one of a kind piece of rustic furniture. Food & Drink: Breakfast: Coffee, tea, and yummy house-made breakfast nibbles included each day. Lunches: Bring your own packed lunch. Refridgeration, mint water, & sun tea provided as well. Happy Hour: An "end of day" glass of wine and light snacks will be included each day to celebrate a productive day's work. * Please let us know ahead of time if you have any dietary restrictions. Covid-19 Update: We're taking all the necessary precautions to host events and workshops in a safe, healthy, compliant and fun way. Over the next few months, as each event on our calendar approaches, we'll be carefully assessing whether or not the circumstances at the time allow us to meet the standards for hosting safe and fun gatherings. If we feel the need to cancel an event, ticket holders will be notified of the cancellation and all ticket fees will be fully refunded.
