Resilient Penn Yan: Ninespotted Ladybug Release

Description

The ninespotted ladybug was once commonly found across North America, when it served as an important beneficial insect in our agricultural landscapes. Now extremely rare, this species is the subject of a reintroduction effort hatched by the Cornell-based Lost Ladybug Project, and we’d love your help! Join Cornell Cooperative Extension educator Caroline Boutard-Hunt for a brief session on the value of these native insects, then help us release them into the garden. You can even take some with you to release into viable habitats on your property or around the community. These larvae have been raised with local adaptation in mind and will be very happy and helpful in our Finger Lakes gardens. This program is being organized jointly by Penn Yan Public Library and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County, with the support of Citizens’ Climate. Resilient Communities: Libraries Respond to Climate Change is a pilot program of the American Library Association. We will hold this program rain or shine, so please dress appropriately.
