Description
Keuka College political science professor Angela Narasimhan leads a course in American government and how to become a more effective citizen. Use freely-available online resources for suggested readings and activities, and meet periodically for context and discussion with peers. If you have an opinion on local issues (the closure of the mental health ward, fracking around our lakes, the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, the opioid epidemic, and more), this experience will equip you with the tools to take action.
All are welcome and registration is NO LONGER required! Come to as many sessions as you're able.
The open source textbook used for the course can be found here: https://openstax.org/details/books/american-government
Here is the breakdown for readings by session; plan to join us for those that interest you the most, and go over the reading ahead of time (potentially subject to change; call the library to verify as needed):
April 17: Chapters 11-13 (Congress; The Presidency; The Courts)
April 24: Chapters 14-17 (State and Local Government; The Bureaucracy; Domestic Policy; Foreign Policy)
