Description
The Arts Center of Yates County is pleased to present “Stay in the Loop”, featuring three exceptional fiber and fabric artists - Jean Hubsch, Nancy LeVant, and Raphaela McCormack - opening May 3rd through June 8th, 2019. Each of these artists has a unique way of expressing their world through the textures and forms of fiber arts. Jean Hubsch began hand embroidery about thirty years ago when she moved to the Finger Lakes area from Rochester, NY. Jean’s special loves are surface embroidery, stumpwork and Brazilian (dimensional) embroidery. She is a member of the Corning Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America and teaches Brazilian Embroidery in the region. Jean lives with her husband on Lamoka Lake and is active in her community as a Board Member of the Schuyler County Historical Society and Mustard Seed Ministries. Originally from Chicago, Nancy LeVant moved to Rochester in 1978 where she learned the art of quilting, Nancy has taught quilting in Gothenberg, Sweden, at Brighton Recreation and at her local Rochester quilt club, the Genesee Valley Quilt Club. She has won many ribbons for her work and has displayed her quilts in shows throughout Western New York, including the prestigious juried exhibition, Quilts=Art=Quilts, held annually at the Schweinfurth Museum of Art in Auburn, NY. Raphaela McCormack was born in Ireland where her love and passion for the land became her inspiration for her art. Jean creates vessels of abaca fiber, rope, driftwood, stones, seed pods and other detritus that reflect her experiences with the textures, colors, materials and forms of Ireland. Now a resident of Rochester, NY, Raphaela creates her vessels through a journey between the creator and the creation, until the vessel has a story to take on its own. In addition to the work of our featured artists, “Stay in the Loop” will also exhibit work from artists juried in to the Flick Gallery. We invite you to attend the Opening Reception on Friday, May 3, from 5 – 7 PM to meet our artists and enjoy refreshments and wine tastings by Prejean Winery. This event is free and open to the public.
