SUMMARY:The Folk Art Guild's Holiday Studios and Seconds Sale
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the season with the Folk Art Guild artisans\, who invite all to visit the workshops and the East Hill Gallery for two weekends in December. Dates and times are December 8 and 9\, and 15 and 16\, from noon to pm. This on-site event gives friends and neighbors a chance to view and to purchase the distinctive craft work in time for the season's gift giving.\n\nVisitors to the Guild have the choice of shopping in the East Hill Gallery for clothing and accessories\, the colorful and warm woven favorites\, and eclectic selection of books at a discount\, and the engaging wooden toys that many have played with growing up. Can you solve the Hindu Pyramid puzzle?\n\nThe workshops will be open\, too. The Pottery Studio is often the first stop. Who would not welcome a new coffee mug\, or an elegant teapot\, especially at a steep discount? The variety and range of selection is extensive\, from functional serving bowls and cups to decorative wood fired vases. The Graphics Studio is next door\, offering a unique array of flower cards composed of the best examples of the local plants\, preserved for presentation. The combinations of blooms set with rare papers are truly special. \n\nThe Woodshop will have a display of more wooden toys\, and local cherry hardwood furniture. Salad bowls\, plates in native woods\, including some huge walnut or maple presentation pieces will be upstairs. They make an impressive centerpiece\, brimming with fruit. Cutting boards\, the end-grain chopping style\, made from a local Canandaigua tree and composed into fascinating patterns\, are sure to entrance. There is a collection of cups and small bowls in osage orange\, the brilliant yellow wood\, turned from trees from a Seneca Lake camp. A unique gift for the aspiring craftsman or woman is the class in woodturning\, a day-long adventure in the wonderful craft. Students learn to turn a dibble\, and make a bowl that they can use for serving. \n\nIn all the shops and the Gallery\, quality seconds and first quality crafts at a discount will be offered. This is a chance to do some serious shopping in a festive setting. \n\nFor more information about the Guild and a calendar of events\, workshops\, and classes\, please visit www.folkartguild.org or call 585-554-3539
